Successful Management of Severe Pre-eclampsia
(Names changed)
Sita, 21 years old and pregnant, lives in Manbu. She lives with her extended family. All of them are farmers except her husband. Her husband went abroad for a job six months ago. He financially supports the family for their survival.
She is pregnant for the first time. During pregnancy, she came for regular PHASE antenatal care check-ups. With no previous signs of concern she came to the clinic and PHASE staff noted complaints of leg and face swelling, blurred vision, and headache.
PHASE staff took her vital signs. Her blood pressure was found to be high. A urine test showed protein was high. All signs and symptoms met the criteria for pre-eclampsia. This case was very serious, so the patient was kept at the clinic in a comfortable position with given oxygen and medication. The fetal heart rhythm was checked, and a plan was made to refer her to a higher centre for further treatment.
Once she arrived at the hosptial she was given an emergency Caesarean and a healthy baby girls was born.
Both mother and baby returned hope happy and healthy 6 days later.
The patient and visitors were very happy with the PHASE staff for saving the mother and baby and giving them a new life. They properly checked and diagnosed the disease and referred her to a higher centre to save her life. They thanked all the PHASE staff for their support and service.
