Strengthening resilience and improving nutrition
The centre of Bichhya is an arduous 8 hours walk away from the next closest village of Rugin (another PHASE Project area) along rugged mountain paths (or 5 hours to a remote jeep track) It is only accessible on foot. All medicines and equipment are brought in by mules and porters.
Rugin is stunning with a strong community. It is only reached by 4 hours in a 4x4 jeep along unpaved road from the nearest town and hospital in Kolti, if one is affordable and available.
One of the districts most severely affected by the 2015 earthquakes. Combined with Sindhupalchok, 40% of deaths caused by the earthquake occurred across the two districts. Gorkha is primarily a rural municipality, with a population of around 32,500 people.
In the Karnali Pradesh province of Nepal, Humla is the most northern district with a population of around 50, 858 people. It is an entirely rural municipality, with only one major road network.
