Learning and adapting to change lives in the UK
At PHASE Worldwide we want to change lives for the long term. We often ask ourselves if we support a group or community for a few weeks, are we making a difference in the long term. We’ve worked in Nepal for years, and so have had a long time to think about this and so have adapted and adjusted overtime for maximum impact making a significant and measurable impact of the long term. Our work in the UK is much newer so we continue to explore and question our approach at each step. Anecdotes from the film classes tell us a small input into a child’s life can have a long term impact. We will continue to explore, discuss and adapt to ensure we are changing lives in the best way possible. Robyn is an example where we can see the impact will last, we want this for every child.
Robyn joined Film Academy in April this year for the first time. She had been making some videos at home on her tablet for friends to watch and was interested in the process and sharing her creations. It was also about that time that the ten year old was on stage, very nervous, as part of her class assembly.
A term and a half later, Robyn has completed her first film as part of the Thomson House Film Academy crew, acting in the short film and working on the production team and is looking forward to her next class assembly and the Year 6 play. She commented, “I think I have built up confidence with being on camera and am really looking forward to being on stage again in my next class assembly”.
