75 year old legendary global adventurer and author, Rosie Swale Pope (MBE) is running solo from the UK to Kathmandu to raise money to support PHASE Worldwide and their charity work in Nepal.
Rosie first began this mission in 2018 and made it all the way to Northern Turkey before the worsening Covid-19 situation during 2020 meant that she had to return to the UK to rethink her route.
After much planning (and a quick mini adventure from Lands End to John o’ Groats) Rosie Runs to Kathmandu was reborn! On 25th June 2021, Rosie left from Sussex to continue her run to Nepal, however the situation in Russia and an unexpected illness meant that unfortunately, Rosie had to return again to the UK. For the remainder of 2022, she’ll be resting up and continuing her recovery. She’ll be taking it slowly, completing short training runs around the UK until she feels well enough to continue her journey to Kathmandu. The situation in Russia and her ongoing illness have made things slightly more complicated this year, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to give up!
Throughout her life Rosie has completed numerous marathons in some of the world’s most challenging terrains and has embarked upon many adventures including trekking across Chile on horseback and sailing across the globe in a small boat.
In 2003, aged 57, she began a five-year run-around-the-world, travelling 20,000 miles to raise awareness for the early diagnosis of cancer, and to raise funds for an orphanage in Kitezh, Russia. Rosie is the only person in the world to have completed this solo challenge unsupported, carrying all her belongings in her cart behind her.
Rosie is completing this run to raise money for PHASE Worldwide’s work in Nepal. PHASE runs health, education and livelihoods programmes in communities living in some of the most remote areas of the Nepalese Himalayas.
By taking on this epic adventure, Rosie hopes to highlight our work whilst inspiring others to follow their dreams whatever age they may be!
